About Course
In this course, students will learn about themselves to others while also developing skills believed to be crucial to:
- Intake Interviewing and Counselling processes
- Focus on the application of Interviewing skills to Child, Adolescent, and Family work
- Students will review, discuss, role-play, observe, and enact Clinical Interviewing Skills
- Because helping Professionals engage in Multicultural environments this course will take into consideration and explore Multicultural knowledge and Sensitivity
What Will You Learn?
- Define what is meant by Counselling.
- Develop an awareness of their personal characteristics and beliefs that influence their place in the Counselling process and their role as a Support worker.
- Describe Diversity issues, including race/ethnicity, gender, social class, spirituality, sexual orientation, age, physical and mental status, and equity issues in Counselling.
- Describe Counsellor characteristics and Behaviors that influence helping processes.
- Demonstrate Skills in conducting an Intake Interview, including body language, asking open questions, probing, and active listening.
- List and describe the Core values of Counselling.
- Classify the Four skill clusters of Counselling.
- Describe the importance of Counsellor objectivity and Self-awareness.
- Define the characteristics of a Counselling relationship.
- Describe the Client intake and Interview process and the purpose of each.
