About Course

This course introduces candidates to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System 2015 (WHMIS 2015), Canada’s harmonized adoption of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for hazard classification and communication.

Candidates learn to recognize hazard pictograms, interpret supplier and workplace labels, read a 16-section Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and apply safe handling, storage, and emergency response practices.

This is the lowest-compliance-risk course in the portfolio and, because there is no accreditor or practical component, the most flexible across delivery modes.

What Will You Learn?

  • By the end of this course, candidates will be able to (identical outcomes across all delivery modes):
  • Explain WHMIS 2015 and its harmonization with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
  • Identify the physical and health hazard classes and their associated pictograms and signal words.
  • Interpret the required elements of a supplier label and a workplace label.
  • Navigate the 16-section format of a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to find relevant safety information.
  • Apply appropriate PPE, storage, and segregation practices for hazardous products.
  • Respond correctly to a hazardous material spill or exposure incident.
