About Course
Operating any business means that the financial resources must be managed in a timely and effective manner. In this course students will learn how to make effective business decisions based on an understanding of cash-flow, cost effectiveness, forecasting, cost control, the processing and analysis of financial data, and how to manage working capital and develop and finance growth strategies.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Apply tools and techniques in managing working capital and controlling cash.
- State the purposes, contents, and limitations of the income statement.
- State the purposes, contents, and limitations of the statement of cash flows.
- Make project and planning decisions based on accurate calculation of cash flow projections.
- Use a cash-flow timeline(s) to conceptualize time-value-of-money problems.
- Define the different types of time-value-of-money problems – Amount lump sum/single amount, (future value, present value) and Annuity (present value of annuity, future value of annuity, present value of annuity due, future value of annuity due).
- Calculate present and future values of payments, perpetuities, and annuities and solve time-value-of-money problems.
- Use the concept of time value of money in developing an investment plan and making investment decisions.
- Develop and negotiate an investment package.
- Describe the financial challenges in starting or growing an industry business.
