About Course

This course focuses on providing students with the core knowledge and understanding of different behavioral, biological, environmental, historical, medical, and socio-cultural aspects of high-risk populations so that needs can be appropriately assessed and care strategies developed across a continuum of care.

What Will You Learn?

  • Discuss existing social service and health care support systems in Canada and the roles of the key players.
  • Identify and describe the variations in health, cultural norms, and healthcare practices among diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, age, and gender groups.
  • Describe the influence of social, cultural, political, and economic factors on health, healthcare access, and health outcomes.
  • Describe the social challenges of Indigenous people in Canada.
  • Describe the international social, political, and economic factors that lead to population migrations.
  • Describe the challenges that people with diverse identities and expressions of sexuality have when accessing healthcare and social services.
