About Course

 

The goal of this course is to prepare students to become competent, grounded, and humane care providers.

To achieve this, the course provides students with the conceptual tools that will assist them in developing a personal, practical, and integrative approach to counseling in the context of being able to make informed and coherent judgments about professional ethical issues.

What Will You Learn?

  • Articulate an awareness of personal ethical principles.
  • Identify and explain ethical decision-making processes.
  • Describe and discuss the value bases of the four approaches to therapy.
  • Articulate personal values and how they inform the role of a support worker.
  • Define the ‘ethics of care’ and compare those to their personal ethical principles.
  • Describe ethical anxiety and the responsibility of ethical practice.
  • Describe the tools to develop ethical mindfulness.
  • Describe how to evaluate ethical competence in themselves and others.
  • Describe the concept of boundaries, confidentially, and the notion of protection for clients and/or support workers.
  • Analyze a work practice ethical dilemma and identify the key issues.
  • Apply an ethical decision-making process to a workplace dilemma.
  • Develop possible solutions for resolving work practice ethical issues.
  • Assess the possible impact of suggested solutions in the context of a work-related ethical issue.
