About Course

  • This course introduces students to the rights and responsibilities of a business. Legal and ethical issues will be explored practically through case study analysis.
  • Students will learn to identify legal and ethical issues concerning city, provincial, and federal laws and regulatory environment in the context of licensing and compliance, privacy, human rights, safety, employment, and business law.

  • Describe the application of business practices within a local and global social, political, and legal environment.
  • Define ethics, social responsibility, sustainability, and the law in the context of the Canadian business system.
  • Describe the complexity of the interrelationships between business and society.
  • Describe the difference between legal and ethical duty.
  • Understand how business entities are established, run, and are accountable ethically and legally.
  • Identify and assess the ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability issues within a business environment.
  • Apply critical thinking skills in the analysis of ethical business problems and determining the appropriate course of action.
  • Define the right of private property, and intellectual property and identify ethical implications for business.
  • Understand the basic principles of insurance, employment, contract, and corporate criminal law.
  • Describe the ethics and responsibility issues associated with an employee, consumer, competitor, and supplier stakeholders.
  • Identify the duties of business associated with codes and statutes, licensing procedures, and consumer protection.
