About Course

  • This course prepares candidates to safely and effectively control traffic around a work site in accordance with the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Traffic Control Manual for Work on Roadways and the WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
  • Candidates learn to interpret traffic control plans, place signage and cones to specification, direct vehicles using standard hand signals, and respond to high-risk roadside situations.
  • In-Person delivery is confirmed; the live outdoor practical and BCCSA competency assessment must always be delivered in-person, under every mode.

What Will You Learn?

  • Explain the legal and regulatory framework governing traffic control in British Columbia.
  • Describe the roles, responsibilities, and legal authority of a Traffic Control Person on a work site.
  • Identify and correctly use standard traffic control devices, signage, and PPE.
  • Set up a compliant work zone, including sign and cone placement, for common roadway configurations.
  • Perform standard hand signals to direct vehicle traffic safely around a work site.
  • Recognize high-risk situations and apply the correct emergency response procedure.
  • ● Communicate effectively with drivers, crew members, and other Traffic Control Persons.
  • Demonstrate the practical competencies required to pass the BCCSA field assessment.
