Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics will be covered, including interactions, side effects, and adverse interactions.

Over-the-counter and prescription drugs will be identified, and basic classifications by body system will be reviewed.

What Will You Learn?

  • Describe and define the basic terms and concepts of pharmacology.
  • Describe drug research, approval, and regulation processes.
  • Describe the pharmacological principles of drug abuse.
  • Describe the mechanism of action and physiological effects of classes of drugs that are typically being abused.
  • Identify the components of the assessment process for patients receiving medications including collecting both objective and subjective data.
  • Identify the goals and outcome criteria receiving medications.
  • Demonstrate a general knowledge of both therapeutic and pharmacodynamics drug classifications and indications.
  • Understand and explain the roles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmaceutics in therapeutic treatment and management.
  • Describe medication administration as it relates to goals of adduction therapy and outcome criteria.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of ethical principles in pharmacologic therapeutic management.
