About Course

This course is designed to explore the basic principles of pharmacology: drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics will be covered, including interactions, side effects, and adverse interactions.

Over-the-counter and prescription drugs will be identified, and basic classifications by body system will be reviewed.

Describe and define the basic terms and concepts of pharmacology.
Describe drug research, approval, and regulation processes.
Describe the pharmacological principles of drug abuse.
Describe the mechanism of action and physiological effects of classes of drugs that are typically being abused.
Identify the components of the assessment process for patients receiving medications including collecting both objective and subjective data.
Identify the goals and outcome criteria receiving medications.
Demonstrate a general knowledge of both therapeutic and pharmacodynamics drug classifications and indications.
Understand and explain the roles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmaceutics in therapeutic treatment and management.
Describe medication administration as it relates to goals of adduction therapy and outcome criteria.
Demonstrate an understanding of ethical principles in pharmacologic therapeutic management.
Describe the components of drug legislation and their impact of on treatment programs.
